George Clooney is reportedly taking his latest directorial venture The Ides of March to the 68th Venice Film Festival, which runs from August 31 to September 10, 2011. The festival has not yet announced the selection of the movie, but sources claim that Clooney's movie will open the International Film Fest.

According to sources, George Clooney has been welcomed warmly at the Venice Film Festival in the past. The Hollywood actor had attended the fest with his movie The Men Who Stare at Goats. In 2005, he picked up a number of prizes for his Good Night and Good Luck.

George Clooney's new movie The Ides of March is based on Beau Willimon's play 'Farragut North'. The film is a political drama that revolves around an idealistic staffer for a newbie presidential candidate gets a crash course on dirty politics during his stint on the campaign trail.

The Ides of March stars George Clooney as a governor with presidential ambitions, Ryan Gosling as his press spokesman and Paul Giamatti as a rival campaign manager. In addition, Clooney has also written the screen adaptation with Grant Heslov and served as one of the producers. Sony is set to release the film on October 7.
