Johnny Depp voices support for West Memphis Three

New York (ANI): Johnny Depp has asked for the reopening of the case of the West Memphis Three - convicted as teenagers of beating three 8-year-olds to death in 1994. The 'Pirates of the Caribbean" star appears on CBS's '48 Hours Mystery" to show support to Jason Baldwin Jessie Misskelley and Damien Echols, who have been 16 years behind bars.

"I firmly believe Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley are totally innocent. It was a need for swift justice to placate the community. Damien Echols is on death row to be killed by lethal injection," the New York Post quoted him as saying.

Depp joins Eddie Vedder, Metallica, Winona Ryder and the Dixie Chicks, in supporting the boys. Baldwin and Echols are serving life sentences, while Echolsis is on death sentence.

I just watched this case on 48 hours and am getting ready to watch both documentaries on the case. I believe it is quite obvious that the west memphis 3 did not commit the awful crime they were convicted of. Even 2 of the young boys' parents believe these three older ones are innocent. It was a leach mob back then. you see it all the time, the police don't like the looks of someone and pin it on them, and everyone follows. The real killer went into a resteraunt and left and the police did...

And "Bailey" what if these three guys who were teens at the time had nothing to do with the murders? What about consoling the living, their lost lives, and their families sufferings. DNA was not available back then. It is now, and there is NO physical evidence (including DNA) to link these guys to the murders. So if it takes a respected superstar like Depp to bring attention to it, hurray. Try to be a bit more open-minded. Sean Penn was young and crazy at the time when he made his claims. Depp is older, mature and has gained a lot of respect. big difference.

Are you Kidding me!!!! Sean Penn tried to lead us to beleive that Saddam Hussein was such a decent person. What a lauigh. What makes you celebrities think your opinion makes a difference to us. Why dont you look a little deeper into this case as I have. Hey Johnny, why don't you leave YOUR children with Damion Echols alone for a few days.Give me a break. If you really want to make a differnce, you might try and console the families of those mutilated little boys. Shame on you.
