Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince rocks box office

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the latest Harry Potter series, has stormed the box office like never before, witnessing a wonderful opening. It has broken the old record for Wednesday midnight screenings of $18.5 million held by the Batman movie The Dark Knight, which was released last year.

The Dark Knight holds the highest one-day US box office record by $67.1 million and went on to $203.7 million in its first five days in theatres. It's overall earning worldwide was $1 billion. The five Harry Potter films based on the books written by J.K. Rowling have raked in $4.5 billion worldwide.

There was scepticism around the recently released Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince due to the ongoing economic recession and the entrance of other franchises like the Twilight films. Many thought that Twilight films would steal away Harry Potter audience. But reality proved otherwise, with tickets of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince selling like hot cakes. Maybe the two-years gap between the last Harry Potter film and the latest offering has created curiosity amongst the film lovers.

Now, talks are doing the rounds that Harry Potter film series would topple even James Bond movies as the top earning franchise in box office history. James Bond movies earned 5 billion dollars from 22 films while five Harry Potter films have already raked in 4.48 dollars billion. With the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and more films in the offing, it has every chance to beat James Bond movies.

More than the performance of the film at the box office, its lead actors Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint have become a rage amongst the film buffs especial teenagers.

Technically it won't "beat " james bond films because when the majority of the classic Bonds released in theatres tickets were like a couple dollars, and the movies cost less to put in theatres also, now that the dollar is worthless tickets for movies are min. 10-20. so thats why it is making os much $$$$$$

Haha I really doubt that Twilight will ever surpass Harry Potter in any way. There's just so much more to the books, and the quality of the writing is much better. Themes, imagery, symbolism....Not to mention the movies- though the first few weren't that great, POA was good and now HBP is definitely the best one yet. The series, books and movies, matured and improved as they went on, while the same can't be said for Twilight- look at the fiasco that is Breaking Dawn. And I'm highly doubtful that the New Moon film will be much of an improvement from Twilight.

Twilight will never take HP Crown that's the reallity and i'm a huge twilight fan myself but lets face it Rowling created a forever making money empire. As for the movie i loved it!!!

Twilight is going to replace it, and there's no doubt about it. It's called that the fan's don't have to choose between the movies because there's nothing against seeing both. But I will agree when I say that this was one of the best potter films yet. The fifth one kinda sucked because barely anything happened in that movie. I would love that since there making two movies out of the seventh book that they keep most of what's in the book, in the movie. I hated how the fifth one left out a lot, and the scene kept changing quickly.

I liked the movie. I just hope that with the last book being split into two movies we the fans will get to see scenes that are important to us.

No, strayed to far from the books. Putting in added scenes that never happened was just wrong!
