Washington (ANI): The Dark Knight's director Christopher Nolan has said that Heath Ledger deserves all the credit for the film's massive box office haul. In the movie, Ledger plays 'The Joker', the last full film role he completed before his death in January (08) from an accidental drug overdose.

Speaking at the film's Japanese premiere, Nolan said that Ledger is behind the success of the movie. "(He was) what The Joker in our film would need to be. (We were) looking for an actor with the fierceness, excitement and teeth to do our version of the Joker," Contactmusic quoted him, as saying.

Christian Bale, who plays Batman in the record-breaking film, also appreciated Ledger. "It's satisfying to see people celebrating the incredible talent of Heath. I just want him to be recognised," he said in a press conference.

it is fair to say he is the best thing in that movie, by far the best. His character and portrayal compared to bale's Batman(not his wayne, which was superb) and gylenhal's Rachelwere the leagues apart. compared to past winners and also characters that won oscars he is no where near close and it's a shame. let it be said however that his portrayal of The Joker is electrifying

TO BE FAIR, I THNK THAT EVERYONE DESERVES SOME CREDIT, BUT I'M DEAD SET ON THE FACT THAT HEATH LEDGER MADE THAT MOVIE. I'M SURE THAT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN GOOD, BUT HEATH MADE IS A SUCCESS AND HE DESERVES THE MOST CREDIT, I HOPE THAT HE GETS AN OSCAR FOR IT. HE WAS THE MOST CONVINCING AND ENERGETIC JOKER THAT I'VE EVER SEEN ON A BATMAN MOVIE.
