Friday, October 19, 2007

Washington (ANI): Naomi Watts has signed on to star in a remake of the hit 1963 Alfred Hitchcock movie 'The Bird", based on Daphne du Maurier's short story. Universal Studios, which is bringing the pic back to the big screen, is also in talks with 'Casino Royale" director Martin Campbell to helm the project.

On board as producers are Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller through their Platinum Dunes shingle along with Peter Guber and Cathy Schulman of Mandalay Pictures. Penning the script are Stiles White and Juliet Snowden, reports Variety. However, new scribes may be brought aboard.

Campbell currently attached to Fox's runaway train actioner "Unstoppable" and crime thriller "36" at Paramount. Watts, who will next be seen in Warner Independent's "Funny Games," is filming "The International" and will follow that up with First Look's adaptation of Amy Sutherland's "Kicked, Bitten and Scratched: Life and Lessons at the World's Premiere School for Exotic Animal Trainers." Universal is not in a hurry to get 'The Birds" into production, what with the possible strike looming.
