Vetrimaran is an Indian Tamil film director and screen writer working in the Tamil film industry. He is from Ranipet, Vellore district, Tamilnadu. He did his English Literature from 1994 in Loyola College, Chennai. Viscom department of Loyola has offerred a elective course called Television presentation, he took up & shows his interest towards film making.
Vetrimaran has started his career as an assistant director to Balu Mahendra for 'Kadai Neram' Serial for Sun TV. Later, he worked with director Kathir in Kadhal Virus. Mean while he also continued working with Balu Mahendra for Julie Ganapathy & Adhu Oru Kana Kaalam. That time, he has created a good relationship with actor Dhanush who played the lead role in Adhu oru Kana Kaalam. He prepared a script for Dhanush & its named as Desiya Nedunchalai 47 but movie was shelved due to trouble in finding the Producers.
In early 2007, they both teamed up for the same script, the movie titled as 'Polladhavan' & this was the debut movie for Vetrimaran. The movie is based on an Youngster & his bike. The movie is based on the happy-go-lucky boy longing for a Pulsar bike & Bicycle thieves did well commercially at Box office. Polladhavan broke all the sentiments which were prevailing in Tamil cinema.
After 2 years. In 2009 Vetrimaran joins hands with dhanush for Aadukalam. Vetrimaaran might have taken a long time and indeed took the blame for delaying the project so much. But it’s worth the time for the film stands out on all aspects as the best one. The film ‘Aadukalam’ carries certain new features like there are no specified heroes and villains, but he clearly makes it a point on mentioning that situations change the persons leading to unexpected things. He won his first National Film Award for Best Director for Aadukalam(2010).
Vetrimaaran is currently undertaking pre-production and scripting work for his next directorial venture, Vada Chennai, a tale on the mafia wars of North Chennai. When announced in 2009, Karthi was initially touted to play the lead role, although an official announcement from the producers in 2012 revealed that Silambarasan, Rana Daggubati, Divya Spandana and Andrea Jeremiah would essay pivotal roles in the film.
The director has also revealed that his fourth venture would see him recombine with Dhanush yet again.
In 2012, Vetrimaaran also launched his own production house called the Grass Root Film Company and launched his maiden project, Udhayam - NH47 with Siddharth in the lead role and his associate Manimaran as director.
