Sunidhi Chauhan Biography
Sunidhi Chauhan (Hindi: सुनिधि चौहान) is an Indian playback singer, best known for her Bollywood songs.
Sunidhi Chauhan was born in Delhi. She completed her schooling from Greenway Public School, Dilshad Garden.She is a Gujarati.
She shot to fame after she sang 'Ruki Ruki si Zindagi' in Ram Gopal Verma's Mast. Sandeep Chowta's first film got her ideal young voice in Sunidhi and her song became the most memorable number for that film. She has sold her solo album called Aira Gaira Nathu Khaira. She was the recipient to the RD Burman award for most promising newcomer in the year 2001.
She started her singing career at a very early age of four. She participated in many competitions and made her presence felt. Her family soon shifted to Mumbai when Tabassum, a TV host spotted her talent and expressed to her parents that she could further her career if they went to Mumbai. She became quite famous through the various competitions she participated in. Her performances were telecast all over India through the National Television channel Doordarshan, through the music show "Meri Aawaz Suno" where she won the "Lata Mangeshkar Trophy" for the best female singer of India along with Pradip Somasundaran in the male category. This was the first such televised contest in India in 1996. Her first break in a Hindi film was in the film Shastra followed by Gang, Veergati, Dahek, Bade Dilwala, Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat, Shyam Benegal's Samar and Vidhu Vinod Chopra film Mission Kashmir. She had no formal training before she entered into various national singing competitions. Lata Mangeshkar offered to train her when she won on the nationally-telecast "Meri Aawaz Suno"
Though she won "Meri Aawaz Suno" playback singing did not come easy for her.All those viewers who watched "Meri Aawaz Suno" started thinking her to be next Lata Mangeshkar, because she is an excellent imitator .She imitates Salma Agha ,Lata Mangeshkar perfectly.Her singing career got a big boost when Sandeep Chowta gave her the first major break in "Mast". After "Mast" there was no turning back. Chameli registered a major hit with her biggest song-to-date "Bhaage Re Mann".
In 2005, she rendered Yeh Mera Dil(Don 2006) and earned much criticism for not matching up with the earlier version sung by Asha Bhonsle in 1978.
She is one of the most 'played' voice in India in the radio circuit. All her numbers like Mast Mahol(Fiza),Ankhiyan na maar (Ek Khiladi Ek Hasina),Race Sanson ki (Race),Chhaliya (Tashan) are quite popular.
She has worked with all music directors of 2000's first decade. Himesh Reshammiya, when asked to rate her in the popular talk show Koffee with Karan gave her a score of 9/10. She is not a classical trained singer with over two thousand songs to her credit.
She also sang the English language song "Reach Out" at the opening ceremony of the 2006 Asian Games at Doha, Qatar.She has sung the songs in the Hindi-dubbed version of Disney Channel Original Movie High School Musical; songs which were sung by Vanessa Anne Hudgens in the English version.
She was born in a Gujarati-speaking household in Delhi. Her father was a minor theatre personality who pushed her into the music industry from a young age. Her formal schooling ended with high school. She spent most of her teenage years in the industry and television shows trying to get a footing in the industry. In 2002, at the age of 18, she married music video director Bobby Khan, against the wishes of her family which caused a rift with her family. They divorced a year later, and Sunidhi has reconciled with her parents. Currently, she lives in Mumbai and New Delhi.
