Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2005
Right form the start of the competition, Hemachandra proved he had the right qualities to become a successful playback singer. For his audition into the show, he sang "Albela Sajan Aaye Re" from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. He was selected without any hesitations from the judges. Throughout the first rounds of the show he received green cards, the highest card available which allows the singer to move on to the next round, and was repeatedly given positive feedback for his strong vocal quality. Hemachandra easily made it into the final 12. From this point on in the competition the singers were eliminated by popular public vote, not by the scores of the judges. Although Hema gave mind blowing performances and got amazing marks from the mentors, he was never voted by the audience. After a fantastic performance of Woh Lamhein, he was given the highest number of votes by the viewers and from then he never looked back until top 3. Hemachandra gave several excellent performances and eventually made it into the top 3.
After giving a beautiful performance of the song "Nahin Samne" from Taal, a performance which the judges said was the best yet on the show, Hemachandra was eliminated from the show due to an overwhelming number of votes for the other two contestants, Vinit Singh and Debojit Saha, from their respective hometowns. However it was sure that Hema lost not because of the lack of talent but because of the lack of votes, at least from his hometown for sure.
Handsome Hyderabadi playback singer Hemachandra's debut Hindi album "HEMACHANDRA, The Debut Album" was launched in Mumbai on 1 November in a glittering function at Planet M attended by several bollywood celebrities including noted music director Mr. Aadesh Shrivastava and the beautiful actress Dia Mirza. The album was produced by Frankfinn Entertainment and the music composed by Mr. Harry Anand. Speaking at the function Mr. Aadesh Shrivastava, who was Hemachandra's mentor on Zee TV's Saregamapa show, said that Hemachandra has the most original voice and that all the songs in the album especially the video song 'Tumse Judaa Hokar' have been composed and sung from the heart and will surely be a hit. Dia Mirza echoed the same sentiment and further added that Hemachandra has the ideal voice for playback singing and will suit any hero. She wished Hemachandra all the success for his debut album. Harry Anand, known earlier for his superhit remix albums, said that with this album he has started his second innings with original compositions and was very happy to have a fantastic singer like Hemachandra launch them. Speaking at the function, Hemachandra said that they have been working very hard on the album for almost a year to make sure that the songs are very good and have his own distinctive style, and be different from other albums that are coming into the market. He also requested all his fans and well wishers to support this album wholeheartedly. After the launch of the album by Ms. Dia Mirza and Mr. Aadesh Shrivastava, Hemachandra performed the video song amid loud cheers from the press and the audience.

The closest Hemachandra has come to "Assam" a year ago was through his Assamese co-contestant Debojit Saha in the musical reality show, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. "Apart from my own mother tongue, Telugu, this is the first time that I am singing in any other Indian regional language. Assamese is a sweet language and I had a great time singing the numbers. Although I found it difficult to pick up the language initially, now I can relate with the language," said Hemachandra.

Hemachandra -The Music Director
After winning accolades for lending voice to soulful numbers, Hemachandra is now all set for a change in role. The 20-year-old Hyderabadi playback singer is turning a music director with Ride. talking about his musical journey into the league of his idols — A.R. Rahman, Mani Sharma and Koti — Hemachandra says he couldn’t be happier. The singer who is working with Bellamkonda Suresh in Ride, “never thought of debuting as a composer alongside such a big name”.
“The feeling’s yet to sink in and I can’t believe I actually bagged this project. Nallamalappu Bujji heard a few songs of mine and recommended my name to Suresh. He asked me to meet him. When Suresh and producer Ramesh Varma heard the music I composed for my album, they liked it and I was handed the offer,” says Hemachandra. Ride, which is based on bikes and bikers, needed racy, hip hop and catchy music and Hemachandra who is the youngest composer in T’wood catered to this requirement. “I’m not scared to experiment and plan to introduce hip hop tracks with a desi touch. That apart, there will be a pure commercial number. I have also tried to include rock and melody into my music, so there’s something in it for everyone,” he quips. The director and producer of the film seem to be very happy with the music given the youngster. Hema chandra is now scoring background music for the film "maa naanna chiranjeevi" starring jagapathi babu, after Ride movie.
Very recently, Hema had a stepping stone in his life. He completed singing 50 songs in the Telugu film industry. Like very few people, he achieved this success in a very short time. We wish him all the best to complete his century very soon.
