Bharat Thakur Biography

Bharat Thakur is a spiritual teacher who has conducted numerous meditation workshops, yoga sessions and corporate yoga workshops internationally. TIME magazine called Bharat Thakur “the Living Himalayan Master”.
Bharat was chosen by his master, Sukhdev Brahmachari at the age of 4 and taken to the Himalayas. Under the guidance of his master, he studied yoga intensively - Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Karma Yoga, Kundalini Yoga and the various other elements of Yoga like Pranayama (breathing techniques), Asana (yoga postures) and Dhyaan (meditation). Along with this, he studied related subjects such as Ayurveda, Tantra, and Mantra. He also studied Sufism, Jainism, and Buddhism, and then returned from the Himalayas to step into normal education. He finished his graduation and subsequently his post-graduation in Exercise Physiology and Yoga from the Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education, Gwalior, India.
Artistic Yoga and Beyond
Bharat Thakur is the founder of “Artistic Yoga”. Adapting ancient yoga techniques and postures to suit contemporary lifestyle requirements, this system of Yoga works on all aspects of fitness - strength, flexibility, stamina, balance and agility. Artistic Yoga is taught in India in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and internationally in Dubai, Kuala Lumpur and Russia.
His brand of Yoga, meditation and philosophy has been practiced by Michael Douglas, Boris Becker, cricketer Shane Warne, businessmen Sunil Bharti Mittal and Ratan Tata, musician Anoushka Shankar, and also members of the Indian Film Industry like Kareena Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Sridevi, Anushka Shetty, Salman Khan and David Dhawan.
Bharat Thakur has conducted many Meditation workshops (called Tapasya - literally “burning with an intense desire to reach the divine”). In this two-day workshop, Bharat uses meditation techniques from diverse systems such as Sufism, Zen Buddhism and Yoga. The student is helped in finding a style of yoga they believe is right for them; Hatha Yoga, Dhyana Yoga or Bhakti Yoga.
His Stress Management program “Transformation” has been used by companies such as Infosys, Wipro, Acer, HLL, HSBC Bank and UTV, teaching them simple yogic techniques and Desktop Yoga, which followers believe brings down stress levels and removes common problems like headaches, backache, stomach disorders and hypertension.
Bharat Thakur is expanding operations into the UK, USA and Singapore. He is the author of 7 books on Yoga, and a collection of poetry entitled “Truth: The Art of The Mystics”. He is also adding energy therapies to his technique. He has released a magazine called Mayanagar, and a portal of the same name, which deal with the entertainment industry.
In 2007, Thakur married to Indian film actress, Bhumika Chawla in Mumbai. Bhumika Chawla was introduced to Bharat by Bollywood star Salman Khan. After about three years, they were wed on 21 October 2007.
