Ek Villain Review: The Villain Unfolds With Revenge

Story...

Guru who works for a goon in Goa is happy with his villainous way of life till beautiful Aisha crosses his life. 'Man sees his woman' moment happens, the guns go silent, love blossoms. Love leads to marriage and the trauma begins after that, when the antagonist Rakesh (Riteish) starts his revenge game. The cat and mouse game of who is the villain and what happens next is the story which is weaved perfectly.

With Sidharth Malhotra's angry young man character with a painful past, Riteish Deshmukh's new grey shade acting with brilliance, Shraddha Kapoor's portrayal with ease the change in emotions every now and then, Mohit Suri's tackling with ease the story with perfect direction, this film for sure will rock the box office.

The film which is accused of being a rip off from a Korean film I Saw The Devil just doesn't affect the screen play or the way it has been weaved for the Indian audience. Ek Villain is just not the run-of-the-mill movies which just pops up every week and vanishes. This one is sure shot winner and it is here to stay!

Songs are a wonder in Ek Villain. 'Galiyaan' and 'Banjara' just hits the right chord of the melody genre. 'Awara' choreographed as an item number for Prachi Desai also rocks. Mohit Suri and his musical extravaganza in his films continues in EK Villain too.

Some interesting tit bits from the film..

1. In the introduction scene, the villain looks very similar to the masked man in the  famous Hollywood movie, I Know What You Did Last Summer.

2. Aisha(Shraddha) calls Guru(Sidharth) as 'angry bird' with love.

3. "Aajke baad apko shikayat ka mauka nehin milega..." this is what Riteish says every time he kills someone.

4. Sidharth meets Riteish and swears that he will show him death everyday in his life and make it hell.

5. Prachi Desai is superb in the item number 'Awari'.

6.Kamaal Khan playing the friend of Riteish Deshmukh is a shocker.

WHO IS THE VILLAIN?

Mohit Suri's words, "In my head, everyone is a bit of a villain"  just holds true throughout the film! Though the real antagonist is Riteish Deshmukh going by the story line, the director's words that everyone is bit of a villain just reverberates in every character completely.

Be it Sidharth Malhotra when on a mission to find the killer or when he struggles with his own emotions which makes him a villain in turn, the director has brought in the villainous streak completely.

Shraddha Kapoor who is so Bohemian and Goan doesn't have much to do in the film except for fulfilling her own wishes. In which angle did the director mean Shraddha's character villainous, only he should justify.

Riteish Deshmukh who is struggling between a psychotic killer and a lovable husband has proved that he is capable of doing negative character roles.

Shaad Randhawa who plays the cop role shifts from being a bad cop who chases Sidharth Malhotra when he was a goon, to when he becomes good, when he sees Riteish chasing Sidharth's family ruthlessly portrays his villainous character.

Amna Shariff who plays the nagging wife of Riteish Deshmukh shows the struggle one goes through being middle class.

Verdict

Even when the villain is out on loose with revenge, the lines which are shown in the beginning -"When you forgive, you in no way change the past - but you sure do change the future" tells what Ek Villain is all about.

Overall, Ek Villain makes one think what is the villainous streak in each one of us!
