"I want to commit suicide..!" This is what the audience comes to hear when the first scene of the much awaited movie 2 States starring Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt opens up on the big screen. And folks, the wait was surely worthy.

Now, you people must be wondering why would a humorous romantic flick like 2 States will start with such a tragic line. Well, 2 States based on Chetan Bhagat best seller starring Arjun Kapoor (Krish) and Alia Bhatt (Ananya) is a story about one Punjabi munda and a Tamil girl who meet during their college days and fall in love with each other very passionately, followed by their relentless endeavour to convince each other's parents for marriage.

2 States In-house Movie Review

Yes, I know the story seems very common as we have already seen so many flicks where one boy and one girl of different community fall for each other and then they fight hard to get married only to live happily ever after.

Before you jump on to any conclusion, the movie 2 States directed by Abhishek Varman with some superb performances and hillarious punch lines surely has a lot of freshness in the seemingly not so fresh story. Arjun's innocence and Alia's bindass attitude with some wow going intimate scenes will surely bring a wide smile on your faces. On the other side, Amrita Singh as a typical Punjabi mom was too good with some really catchy lines and Revathy as a sweet simple Tamil amma did all justice to her role.

Now, to talk about the kick off dialogue "I want to commit suicide", this is what apparently 'bechara' Arjun had to say while he was narrating his romantic, troublesome, exciting and what not love story to a psychiatrist.

The first half of the movie 2 States has all that what one can expect from a two young couple's love story including, some funny 'line-maro' punches, the anxiety of falling into love, romance and of course some hot kissing scenes. Arjun was superb with his effortless performance while Alia's expressions are enough to make your eyes stuck to the screen.

However, the real fun begins when the couple finally decides to marry each other which however, seemed "Mission Impossible" with the duo's Punjabi and Tamil parents sparing no chance to insult each other's counterpart, though with some real funny liners.

The on-screen chemistry between Alia and Arjun surely did wonders for the film and you will just go woo when Alia surprised Arjun with a sudden passionate kiss when the latter admits his love for the Tamil beauty. There are a couple of intimate scenes and kisses which follows and the duo has done it with real ease.

Nevertheless, the till now smooth going love story was about to get real tough when the couple decides to make each others' parents convinced about their marriage. Now, Arjun brings his typical Punjabi mother played by Amrita Singh who always dreamt about an 'agyakari' Punjabi bahu for his son meet with Alia's parents played by Revathy and Shiv Subrahmanyam who also wanted nothing else than a sober Tamil son-in-law.

What follows is Arjun's mom saying with shock, "Yeh toh Madrasan hai. Mujhe Madrasi nehi aati (They are Madrasi but I don't speak Madrasi)" and Alia's amma murmuring "typical uncultured Punjabi people" while helpless Arjun sits between his and Alia's mother.

Well, this was just the beginning of the 'not so sweet' exchange of words as after the interval a scene comes when Arjun's mother started boasting about his "handsome and educated" Punjabi son saying, "Apki beti kitni lucky hai jo usko itna handsome aur qualified dulha mil raha hai (Your girl is so lucky that she is getting such a handsome and qualified husband)." Alia's mother tries to balance saying, "90 percent Tamilian qualified hote hai (90 percent Tamilians are qualified)." But, the blunt Punjabi mother got over the Tamil family's nerves when she replied, "Maaf karna behenji magar 90 percent Tamilian gorey bhi toh nehi hote (Excuse me, but 90 percent Tamilians are also not fair)".

Apart from the funny one liners, the movie 2 States also portrays a disturbed family of Arjun who unlike the bonding with his mother, shares a very bitter relationship with his father played by Ronit Roy. To make sense of the bitter relationship between Arjun and his dad, Arjun narrates Alia about a flashback incident where Arjun tells about his former girlfriend to his dad only to get slapped by him. Followed by an unusual scene in which when Arjun's dad quarreled with his mother and slapped her, Arjun came forward and slapped back his dad which however, left the entire family including Arjun totally broken.

The couple got the half mission accomplished when Arjun convinced Alia's family for the marriage with a very sweet gesture when Arjun brings out four rings and says he wants to marry everyone in the family while having lunch with them. But the happiness was just momentary as Arjun says, "Nothing is more dangerous than a punjabi mother-in-law" and now its Alia's turn to impress Arjun's "broad-minded" mom and 'not so sweet' dad.

The song 'Mahiya' perfectly reflects the emotions of Arjun and Alia when the duo had to suffer a break-up as they thought their families will never accept each other. And then comes a big twist in the film when Arjun's dad finally realises all his mistakes and tries to get his son back by making Alia's parents convinced for the marriage and soon love is back in the air with the beautiful song 'Mast Magan'. Then comes a touchy moment when Arjun hugs his father while, everything gets a rosy turn. However, the climax of the movie seemed somewhat hasty as everything turned good all of a sudden with Arjun and Alia's tying knots only to live happily ever after.

All in all, 2 States is surely a worth watching flick and will fetch you a full pasia wasool 2 and half hours. So folks, get ready to fall in love with Krish and Ananya's love story this weekend.
