Superstar Salman Khan appeared before a Mumbai Sessions Court today in connection with the 2002 hit-and-run case. On June 24, the Mumbai Sessions Court had rejected Salman's review petition as a result, the actor will now have to face a fresh trial on the culpable homicide not amounting to murder case, under Section 304 of IPC.

According to recent news, Salman was supposed to leave for London on 26th July for the shooting of his movie Kick, but the magistrate has asked him to appear again before the court on 24th July.

Earlier Salman Khan was only being tried for rash and negligent driving, which has a sentence of two years, according to law. But in January this year, the metropolitan magistrate, after examining 17 witnesses in the case, charged Salman Khan for culpable homicide.

In March, Salman Khan appealed against the magistrate's order and asked for a retrial in the case under the stringent charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. In the petition filed by the actor, it was mentioned that the magistrate's order is "bad in law" and "erroneous".

Salman Khan's SUV ran over a group of people sleeping on the pavement in 2002. In the accident, one person was killed and four others were injured badly.

If convicted for this charge Salman Khan will have to go to the jail for ten years.
