As per a leading daily's reports, on that unfateful night, Salman Khan, who was drunk was warned by his bodyguard to drive slow. Ignoring the warnings, Salman drove at 100 kmph, which resulted in the mishap, the court said. Salman Khan was earlier charged with causing death due to negligence under Section 304-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), with a maximum term of two years. The charge now stands enhanced to Section 304-II (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), which attracts a maximum punishment of 10 years.
Rejecting the plea, judge Hejib said, "I find myself unable to subscribe with the submissions advanced by the defence lawyers that the learned magistrate has come to a wrong conclusion; the defence has not taken into account the cross-examination of prosecution's witness."
