We have all seen actress Amrita Rao in docile roles but this time she is going to surprise us all with her rebellious role in Satyagraha. Even though the actress is happy with her performance in her previous films like Ishq Vishk, Vivah and Welcome to Sajjanpur, Amrita is is particularly proud of her performance in Prakash Jha's Satyagraha where she is Amitabh Bachchan's daughter-in-law.
The 32-year-old felt like this role was a privilege for her. "I have done a lot of films which I am happy about but this one, I am proud of. As an actress it is a privilege to play someone representing the youth of our country. It is such a sensitive subject. It almost felt like I was living the angst of the youth," said Amrita.
The movie is inspired from current situations and depicts a democracy that is not functioning well. "There were moments while shooting, where everyone felt frustrated seeing what is happening in our nation today," the actress explained.
Amrita describes her character in Satyagraha as a morally upright and strong girl from a small town who represents the 'aam aadmi'. "Sumitra Anand comes from a small town, educated family. She symbolises the aam aadmi who faces so many obstacles in day-to-day working. There is so much corruption on so many levels of democracy that the common man is deprived of the basic rights. In the fight against all of this she become a part of Satyagraha," Amrita said.
The actress is glad that she got an opportunity to work with Prakash Jha. "Jhaji has always made films with a light of reality and the audience has always accepted it. It was an overwhelming film to work in," she added.

Amrita In Satyagraha
Amrita Rao plays Bachchan's daughter-in-law in Satyagraha. She says that the film tries to portray India's reality today and shooting for it was quite emotional.
Satyagraha Not Based On A True Story
Earlier Prakash Jha had denied all reports that said Satyagraha was based on Anna Hazare movement or the Nirbhaya case. Now, we have Amrita talking on the same issue. "Cinema is a platform open to all kind of views and it is very unrealistic to think that everyone can be happy. Such a historic event happened recently so it will be foolish to think that one will enact it on stage. The movie is not about Anna Hazare or Arvind Kejrival. It is about any issue that can be taken to streets," she said.

Amrita's Got A Movie Lined Up
Amrita Rao's next film is titled Singh Sahab the Great in which she will be playing a news reporter opposite actor Sunny Deol. "I want to explore new kind of roles. In Jolly LLB also the role was a little outgoing and wacky. I hope directors start taking notice of this and offer me different roles," she expressed.
