RGV's Not A Love Story gets a nod from High Court

Published: Thursday, August 18, 2011, 10:35 [IST]

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday gave its green signal to the release of director Ram Gopal Varma's film Not A Love Story. The film is touted to be based on the murder case of the television executive Neeraj Grover.

Justice SJ Vazifdar refused to consider the suit filed by former naval officer Emile Jerome, who was convicted in the 2008 for Neeraj Grover's murder case, seeking stay on the release of the film stating that it would hamper his appeal which is pending before the high court. Kannada actress Maria Susairaj, who was also accused and convicted on a lighter charge of destruction of evidence had also filed a case asking for a ban on the movie's release. This direction by Varma stars Mahie Gill as Susairaj and is scheduled for an August 19 release.

Jerome in his suit had claimed that the movie would destroy his life and diminish his chances of rehabilitation. The advocates fighting for the producer of Not A Love Story argued that the prints of the movies have been distributed for nationwide release and cannot be called back.

"The film was announced in April 2011 and has been widely publicised since June 2011 with disclaimer that it is a work of fiction and not based on any story or incident," they argued. The court accepted the argument and refused to stay the release of the movie.
