Not A Love Story faces legal suit for being a copy

Published: Wednesday, August 17, 2011, 11:29 [IST]

Producer Shareef Zuberi yesterday filed a suit in a City Civil Court of Mumbai, seeking a direction to restrain film maker Ram Gopal Verma from releasing his forthcoming film Not a Love Story. The film is touted to be based on the murder of TV executive Neeraj Grover. The suit has been filed against the release stating that Not A Love Story is a copy of his under-production film based on the similar plot.

Zuberi claimed that he was making a film titled "Love Affair" and had registered the script with the Film Writers Association. He alleged that Verma had copied the story idea and was making a similar film on Neeraj Grover's murder with the title "Not a love story". Zuberi informs that his film was 70 per cent complete and would be ready for release in the next 45 days.

The producer added that he has already spent Rs 70 lakh on the project 'Love Affair' and was shocked to see in the newspaper that Varma was releasing a film based on the same subject. RGV, whose Not A Love Story is all set to hit the screens coming Friday ( 19th August, 2011), said that he had not heard of producer Zuberi and dismissed all the allegations of copying the story idea.

Zuberi urged the court to stop the release of Not A Love Story, till Verma compensates him for the losses suffered or by restraining the film's release after Zuberi's film Love Affair hits the screen. Zuberi's lawyer Sushan Kunjuraman said that the petition would be heard today.
