Shahrukh doesn't believe in VIP treatment

A lot has been talked about his detention at the Newark International Airport. Some were furious about the issue where as some accused Shahrukh of blowing it out of proportions and hoping to get a VIP treatment where ever he goes. Shahrukh has rubbished this theory and said he never expected any VIP treatment because he did not believe in it. The actor added that he and his family had never jumped queues at the airport in India or elsewhere owing to his celebrity status.

Shahrukh also dismissed rumours that he had done all this to promote his upcoming movie My Name Is Khan which co-incidentally deals with the discrimination of Muslims in US post 9/11. He argued that his movie would release after eight months so it was no time to promote his movies. In what could be termed as superstar confidence Shahrukh concluded that Shahrukh Khan or My Name Is Khan did not need such cheap publicity stunts.

I have an extremely common name in the United States, and every time I fly there's a brief delay while they parse out my information and determine that I'm not the guy on the watch list with my name. Huge numbers of Americans have the same experience every year. The notion that Shahrukh Khan was singled out in some abusive way is probably false. Indians are obviously not used to these security measures, but judging from recent history, maybe they should be. Americans are advised to get to the airport two hours before every flight because of security screenings. The 66 minutes Mr. Khan was inconvenienced would fall well within that time. Much of it was probably spent waiting for a computer check to be run. I'd have just sat tight and read a book. This incident has been blown up far too much in India. If an American movie star were detained at the airport in Kolkata for an hour or more, I'm not sure he'd be one bit surprised. And as for inconveniencing foreign movie stars, isn't it India where Richard Gere was indicted for kissing an actress on television? That seemed pretty outrageous to Americans, too.

He did blow it out of proportions. The US Administration said he was detained as his luggage did not arrive. He told the media and his fans that he was detained because of his name.
