Slumdog Millionaire star Rubina Ali left homeless

The lead actors of Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire, Dev Patel and Freida Pinto, are flying high following the success of the film at the Oscars but the kids who played the young Salim and Latika are left homeless. The kids are literally made to wander in the streets, very much like their roles in Slumdog Millionaire.

First, it was Mohammed Azharuddin Ismail, who was left homeless earlier this month, following the Bombay High Court order to demolish the illegal encroachments. Now, Rubina Ali's home too has given way to the so called development. The local railway authorities have destroyed her home in Bandra, as it was deemed illegal.

Rubina's father Rafiq Qureshi got the shock of his life when he went to the police station to inquire about the demolition. He was allegedly beaten up by the police and is currently recuperating at Bhabha hospital. The police denied harassing Rafiq Qureshi but Rubina confirmed that the incident did happen.

With the government yet to fulfill its promise to gift houses to the impoverished child actors, the talented Azharuddin and Rubina, who walked the red carpet at this year's Oscars, and their families will have wander in the streets. Their future looks even dimmer with monsoon about to set in!

What about the shame and greed of a government that denies property rights to rural inhabitants, leaving the poor no choice but to seek work in the city? Slums are caused by bad policies that keep people poor.

There is not much difference between the Slumdog team and the character 'Maman' in the movie. Both used the kids as objects to make money. Only difference being 'Maman' used to maim these kids, Slumdog team discarded them. These people make movies so beautifully as they are great souls touched by these slum kids' lives, etc. If that is true why do we keep hearing one bad news after another about the 'Slumdog' kids. Hypocrites!! These people are shamelessly selfish. Cant they contribute a very small percentage of the millions they made for the welfare of these kids? The kids did contribute to the success of the movie!
