Rani Mukherjee hurts sentiments of the Sikhs

Bollywood is a pain in the neck for the Sikh community. Just on the heels of Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan getting into trouble with the community for their roles in Singh is Kinng and Love Aaj Kal respectively, Rani Mukherjee too has entered the dirty waters.

The news is doing the rounds that Rani Mukherjee has hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community by wearing imperfect turban in Dil Bole Hadippa produced by Yash Raj Films. The Sikhs are annoyed with Rani for donning a patka instead of a pagdi, as she is an adult. They are also not happy with the use of patka sign in place of a dot in the letter 'I' in the title Hadippa.

President of Punjabi Cultural And Heritage Board Charan Singh Sapra met the people in the Yash Raj Films banner to discuss the matter. It is said that the Board is satisfied with the makers of the film, as they have assured necessary action to be taken.

Dil Bole Hadippa features Rani Mukherjee and Shahid Kapoor in the lead roles. It also features actors like Anupam Kher, Dalip Tahil, Rakhi Sawant and Sherlyn Chopra. Anurag Singh directs and Pritam composed the music.

Shahid-Rani's film not shelved

There were tabloid reports that the Yash Raj banner film tentatively titled Hadippa starring Rani Mukherjee and Shahid Kapoor had been shelved because of producer Aditya Chopra not happy being with debutante director Anurag Singh's work on the film. There were also reports that Rani was ghost directing the film and the next schedule was being planned with Aditya Chopra taking over that film's direction. But now Yash Raj has come out with a clarification stating all.....

all said and done, it is not only the sikhs that are strong and tough, it is the punjabi community of which sikhs have a lions share. but the toughness is only physical. mentally they are made of wax. they melt at the slightest touch of heat. some years back raj narayan was to do a movie where he would play guru nanak's role. the sikhs raised a big hue and cry and the big leader had to bow out of the big role. this is long before singh is king and love aajkal but deserves to be remembered to portray the sikhis psychology: they still wear patka and are a long way to turban. i am sorry if i hurt someone's psyche but this is a fact. they need to grow up.

I'm a London born Sikh and I grew up watching Pakistani Punjabi movies in which the Hindu character would always be shown as small, skinny, bald with a ponytail and a bit of a retard. Pakistanis grew up and stopped that kind of stereotype a generation ago....just like western nations stopped their negative stereotypes of Irish, Polaks and blacks a generation ago. Personally, I feel that India is a generation behind the world when it comes to modern thinking...and the difference between right and wrong. I mean, my son stopped wearing the patka and graduated to wearing the turban when he was 5. When you depict grown sikh men (or women diguised as men) wearing a little toddlers patka, its India as a whole that looks silly and stupid....not the sikhs. We're just complaining because we can't belive how little knowledge some of you have.
