Anurag Kashyap not scared of Raj Thackeray

Filmmaker Karan Johar gave in to the diktats of Raj Thackeray and apologised for using the word Bombay instead of Mumbai in his recently released film Wake Up Sid. However, director Anurag Kashyap is adamant to stick to the title Bombay Velvet in spite of the possible threat from MNS.

Anurag is not going to change the title of a part of his feature film which is scheduled to start next year. He said that he wouldn"t call his film Mumbai Velvet because Bombay Velvet is set in a time even before Raj Thackeray was born. The city was called Bombay then.

The director is willing to take the MNS head-on. He said that he would resort to a legal recourse if the outfit turns unreasonable. He added that the Mumbai trilogy would begin only by the middle of next year, as it is a big budget film.

However, titles for the other two parts have not been finalised. Writer Gyan has been researching intensely on the project for two years. It was reported that Danny Boyle, who won Oscar Award for Slumdog Millionaire, is making the film.

.. An illiterate that was able to get a computer, get access to the internet, find this article and comment on it? You're the one with a great sense of humour. Apart from the fish thing, what he's said is spot-on in my opinion..

Its about time politicians did what they are really supposed to do...bring a positive change in the country, help the society to progress, address issues like poverty and HIV...and leave film-makers and film-making alone to do their job. Why bring politics into movies? Bombay is as much a part of Mumbai as Mumbai is. Bombay is a fond memory...Bombay is a reality...Bombay is a big part of our History. I could go on...I just want to tell the politicians to stop flexing their muscles, instead put money where their mouth is and do what they promised to do for the junta before they were elected.

I don't know what to say. It looks like a sad demise of our freedom of speech. But nevertheless, I am hopeful. Bombay, a baby bay... Is not it beautiful? Or these Marathi crusaders are illiterate to understand its meaning. Mumbai, name of some fish they like to eat. A non-vegetarians name. It hurts vegetarians. It hurts to find a place renamed where I was born.

I completely agree with you, but Bombay is 'beautiful bay' Portuguese, not 'baby bay'
