Mehbooba: Blast from the past

Friday, June 27, 2008, 16:50 [IST]
Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgan and Manisha Koirala starrer Mehbooba is at last due to be released on 11th of next month. The shooting of the film started in 1999 but due to some major date problems of the film casts it took four long years for its completion.

In these four years, Manisha's popularity wasn't the same due to which no distributors were ready to buy the film. And now after four additional years the movie is all set to hit the cinema halls. But the question arises is whether the film made for the audiences belonging to 2000 would be able to leave any kind of impact on the hi-tech loving cinema audiences of 2008.

Well, looking at the shaggy promos of the film, it doesn't look like the film's posters would be hanging for long outside the cinema halls. Anyway, it is surely going to be a treat for those very few fans of this yesteryears Ilu Ilu Nepali actress.

I agree with previous poster. Looks like movie has been noticed and songs are too. Udit Narayan number is in top 10. Yes, 10 years is a long time and people have different expectation than when film began shooting. But still considering huge fanbase of Manisha and Sanjaya Dutt together with melodious music it might do well.

I disagree. Firstly, Manisha does not have very few fans, she has alot, although she is not as popular as she once was. She belongs to a generation gone, and few can put of a performance as she can. The film may not do well honestly as 10 years is too long a time for any film of a big budget venture as this one. But suprisingly the music has been noticed, and so has the film. So is that a sign that the film is not as hopeless as the author wants to make it out to be? it was obviously worth somthing for the author to use his or her time to mention it. I expect it to be a good film even if it may not do as good in the box office. Lets face it, its a new genration. But given the performances of Manisha in the past, whcih are masterpieces, it is unfair to imply that if the film does badly, its due to Manisha, as one may imply form reading the article. I look forward to seeing Manisha Koirala on the screen again, especially dancing to the Kavita Krishnamurty number!
