Corporate entity UTV and the badshaah of entertainers David Dhawan have teamed up for a new project that's titled Hook Ya Crook. An offbeat title, right? Wait till you hear the star cast of the film and you'd agree that the casting is equally unusual: Siddharth and Amrita Rao.
Siddharth, who won tremendous acclaim for his performance in Rang De Basanti [also produced by UTV], will now appear in his second Hindi film and in a role that's a far cry from the one essayed by him in R.D.B. Meanwhile, the makers are toying with the idea of casting a senior actor for a pivotal role and it could be Sanjay Dutt or Nana Patekar.
Besides a wacky title and an atypical star cast, there's yet another unusual factor going. Rensil D'Silva, who wrote the script of Rang De Basanti, has penned the script for this David Dhawan film -- another first. "It's the most interesting script to come out of UTV," Siddharth Roy Kapur of UTV informs me.
What's the film all about? "You can't slot Hook Ya Crook in any one particular genre. It's a thriller, it has comedy in good doses, there's a love story too... and cricket as well," Siddharth enlightens. Principal shooting of the film is expected to commence in April 2007.
