Swades might have been one of his critically most appreciated roles but Shahrukh Khan loves commercial success more than anything. This is perhaps the only explanation as to why Shahrukh turned down Ashutosh Gowariker's offer to star in his next movie. Ashutosh approached Shahrukh for a period film which will have Rani Mukherjee as the female lead.

Rani whose career is on a negative dive could not have asked for a bigger name than the Laagan director.
