It's Time For Change; Womanhood of Bollywood Taking The Lead!

Gone are the days when role of women in Indian cinema was confined to just as entertainment stuffs with few item numbers and romantic scenes. This year International Women's Day will have a much bigger significance in the B-town with so many films coming up wherein, the fairer sex will lead the deed.

Although, Bollywood had necessarily been dominated by male actors so far but looks like it's now time for the old trend to take a backseat. The year 2014 has already been marked with some of the highly applauded films wherein, the glamorous and talented Bollywood divas were on the driving seat and proved their worth in the industry.

When asked about the role of women in the Bollywood industry, the Gulaab Gang 'dabang' lady, Madhuri Dixit said, "I am happy to see that women are now seen playing roles of real people on the screen rather than just being fit into some slots. It's definitely a good era for women in Bollywood as there are now new directors coming up with sensibilities."

Meanwhile, actress Diya Mirza tweeted, "Watch the roles women are essaying in Gulaab Gang, Highway, Queen and soon to be released Bobby Jasoos. This is definitely an exciting time for women in Indian cinema."

As a matter of fact, this trend of making women centric movies in Bollywood was felt since recent past with films like The Dirty Picture, Heroine, Fashion, Ishqiya, Kahani, etc. Nonetheless, it is evident that things are changing favourably for the charming ladies in B-town, however it has to go a long way as even top Bollywood heroines are still not lucky enough to be at par with their male counterparts in terms of both remuneration and recognition.

Highly hyped movie Gulaab Gang to be released on March 7 has two of the most popular actresses of their era, Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla in the lead roles. The movie Gulaab Gang directed by debut director Soumik Sen has been gaining lot of expectation and interest in the hearts of Madhuri-Juhi fans as both will carry roles that they were never seen in before.

The dhak-dhak girl Madhuri will play the role of a tough protagonist lady while, charming Juhi is first time feature in a negative role as a politician, both holding very strong roles. Madhuri also graced her fans with her performance in Dedh Ishqiya which was released in January 2014.
