Goliyon Ki Raas Leela: Ram Leela, as the name suggests, is a love story of Ram and Leela, but coloured red all around. Sanjay Leela Bansali, no doubt, has wonderfully depicted the love story and it couldn't have been better if given to any other director.
We have to accept that this is a Shakespearean story of love and war - Romeo and Juliet and nothing can be expected except love and war. But sometimes it becomes unbearable with overdose of kisses, vulgar talks or shows (Blue film CDs), too many guns and shootings, also not to forget Deepika's cleavage show and Ranveer's body display.
The story deals with Ram (Ranveer Singh) and Leela (Deepika Padukone), who are from rival families Rajadi and Sanada. These families have been at loggerheads for 500 years. Ram meets Leela during Holi, and their love story starts with Gun and Pichkari. Ram falls in love with Leela at first sight and expresses his love and she does the same all with a Chumma (kiss). Then starts a series of kisses in the movie. Their love takes a twist when Ram kills Leela's brother, who had killed Ram's brother. Rest should be seen on screen.
Ram-Leela has mixture of all Sanjay Leela Bhansali's previous movies like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas! The climax and story will make you feel that the movie is similar to Ishaaqzade too. He has retained his style of Herione running, crying, lighting diyas, showing full moon and not to forget in his movies even heros cry!

Lighting diyas (Songs: Dhoop and Silsila ye chahat) reminds us of Devdas. Especially, the scene where Ranveer comes to see Deepika when she is fast asleep resembles the scene of Devdas, where Shahrukh does the same when Aishwarya is sleeping. Not to forget, the dance Supriya Pathak in Ram Leela, which resembles the dance of Kirron Kher in Devdas.
The guns, enmity, romance between the lead pair in this movie resemble Ishaaqzade. The climax scene of Ram Leela is very similar to that of Ishaaqzade.
Deepika Padukone's Performance
None other than Deepika could have done Leela's role. Bold, Beautiful and charming, that's how we can describer her. She had performed the role of Leela with ease.
Ranveer Singh's Performance
Ranveer Singh also has given good performance. But has gone overboard showing off his chiseled-oiled body. It seems to be so unnatural to show off the body everytime in the movie. Sometimes we even feel that his dance moves (especially in 'Tattad tattad', a dandruff song) are overdone!
Dipy and Ranveer's explosive chemistry in the whole movie is a must watch. It is this, which pulls the audience to theatres to watch the movie. But at times we feel that chummas and goliyas in between them are a little too much!
Richa Chadda, Supriya Pathak, Barkha Bisht
Richa Chadda (Raseela) as Leela's sister-in-law, Supriya Pathak (Baa) as Leela's mother, Barkha Bisht (Kesar) as Ram's sister-in-law, have also performed their role beautifully. All women in black, most of the time, show the women power which is impressive.
Sharad Kelkar, Abhimanyu Singh, Gulshan Devaiah
Sharad Kelkar as Leela's brother, and Abhimanyu Singh as Ram's brother appear for pretty short time on screen, and have given outstanding performances.
Gulshan Devaiah as an antagonist in the movie is brilliant. He suits best for the role. His nature of being bad is shown during the climax.
'Nagada sang', 'Ang laga de', 'Ram chache Leela', 'Ishqiyo dishqio', 'Lahu muh' and 'Tattad' are good. Dance moves are well choreographed, except in Tattad and Ram chache Leela item song. The dance steps in Tattad make you laugh. Costumes are colourful.
Priyanka Chopra Item Number
Priyanka's dance number is too revealing with few vulgar movements. Yes, though Priyanka looks sexy and hot, few dance moves will definitely make you laugh!
The movie has vivid cinematography that will definitely ensure a visual extravaganza. Ram Leela has colourful sets, which has mostly shades of red, if not background, costumes at least are coloured red.
A typical-colourful Sanjay Leela Bhansali film. But this movie seems to be a little loud and more colourful with overdose of guns and kisses - A bold, violent with few vulgar talks and moves. Well, what can we expect from Romeo-Juliet movie?
Watch only if you like Romeo-Juliet's story: The Passion of Love and War equally!
