King of Romantic cinema, Yash Chopra turns 80 today – Wish him on his b'day

Kabhie Kabhie (1976) was produced and directed by Yash Chopra. Yash wanted to cast Parveen Babi opposite Rishi Kapoor, and then later decided to cast Neetu Singh opposite him.

Duet version,'Kabhi Kabhie' was listed as no. 7 on the list of 100 Greatest Bollywood Soundtracks by Planet Bollywood.

Silsila (1981) was produced and directed by Yash Chopra. For the role of Jaya, Padmini Kolhapure and Smita Patil were first considered. Later, Amitabh recommended Jaya and Rekha.

'Dekha Ek Khwab' and 'Yeh kahaan' songs were partly shot in The Netherlands which was Yash Chopra's first overseas shoots. Later shooting in foreign location became a trend.

Rekha was offered the role of Chandini in the movie of same name in 1989. But she turned down the offer and recommended Sridevi. White costumes, which Sridevi donned, became very popular.

Many scenes of the movie were shot in Switzerland, which became favourite destination for many Indians.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), was the directorial debut of Aditya Chopra, who also penned the story. Aditya wanted to cast Tom Cruise in Raj's role.

In 2001, DDLJ broke the continuous exhibition record of the movie Sholay at Minerva theatre (5 years, 1975-1980). Also in February 2010, it celebrated continuous run of 750 weeks.

Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), directed by Yash Chopra and produced by Yash and Aditya Chopra, is a musical romantic drama. The role of Nisha, played by Karisma Kapoor was offered to Raveena Tandon, Juhi Chawla, Kajol, Manisha Koirala and Shilpa Shetty before. Initially the movie was titled 'Maine To Mohabbat Ki Hai'.

This movie was the second highest grossing movie of 1997. It was the first Bollywood movie to be shot in the German theme park Europa Park and Baden-Baden, Germany.

Ek Tha Tiger, directed by Kabir Khan and produced by Aditya Chopra of Yash Raj Films stars Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif in the lead.

Ek Tha Tiger was one of the biggest blockbusters released this year and did raving business at the Box Office, both in India and abroad.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan marks the comeback of Yash Chopra as director and stars Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in the lead.

Astro-numerologist Bhavikk Sangghvi predicts that Jab Tak Hai Jaan will set the Box Office ablaze and surpass the lifetime collections of all previous blockbuster movies.

The film is scheduled to release on November 13th this year.
