We are here to introduce you to the versatile director Sandeep Malani, who is currently gearing up for his upcoming movie Jaanleva 555. Sandeep is one such filmmaker amongst the huge lot, who believes in doing movies, that leaves you thinking and pondering over the topic, rather than making films for mere entertainment.
You had earlier worked with Bollywood director Onir for his film I Am. How was your experience working with him?
I wanted to learn from Onir. His films are very unusual. I spoke to him about it and he liked me and my work. Then, we shot for Abhimanyu in Bangalore. It was a wonderful experience. He's an institution himself. He's awesome, so organised, his movies are so different from the stereotyped masala movies.
How are you related to the Bollywood's Kapoor family?
My father is their distant cousin. Right now, I have no connection with the Kapoors.
Are you a lover of offbeat, art movies. Don't you prefer to do some commercial entertainers?
My film Jaanleva 555 is a commercial, entertainer. It is very different from the movies I did so far. I want to do both kind of movies. I always wanted to do an offbeat film, so I did it earlier. But, now I'm focussing on commercial movies.
You are a Sridevi fan. Do you think her comeback film English Vinglish will do good at the Box Office?
She's gonna rock, trust me. The film will definitely do good. I run a facebook fan page for Sridevi. More than Jaanleva 555, I'm looking up for English Vinglish. I have been Sridevi's fan since the age 7.
If you see the recent rung of Bollywood movies, most of them are copied from the South industry. What would you like to say about this?
See, taking ideas is not bad. But, I wouldn't support copy paste stories. Even if you taking someone else's idea, that's fine, but, it is mandatory that you include your own creativity in it.
