Salman Khan, the remake king of Bollywood!

Remakes have become a trend in Bollywood. Copying movies from other languages and getting inspired from some novels are not new here. Many actors have done remake, but one person who has given maximum number of hits in remake is our Salman Khan. And with this can we call Salman, the king of remake? Read on to decide...

We know that Salman's movies like Wanted, Ready and Bodyguard were blockbusters and remake of south movies. But did you know this: Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega's plot was similar to the Hollywood film While You Were Sleeping? Few scenes of Chori Chori Chupke Chupke were inspired from Pretty Woman and its storyline was similar to Lekh Tandon's Doosri Dulhan. Storyline of Partner was based on Hollywood film Hitch. God Tussi Great Ho was inspired from a village folk but the film's storyline has similarities with the Hollywood movie Bruce Almighty.

Not only this, many of Salman's cameo movies were also inspired once. To name a few, Dhaai Akshar Prem Ki - Remake of the Hollywood film A Walk in the Clouds. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya - Based on Fyodor Dostoevsky's short story White Nights. Not to forget, the recent film Son of Sardar, which was also a remake of Telugu film Maryada Ramanna.

Love

Who can forget the superhit song ‘Sathiya Ye Tune Kya' sung by SP Balasubrahmanyam and KS Chitra? Suresh Krishna's Love starred Salman Khan and Revathi Menon. It was a remake of blockbuster Telugu movie Prema which had Venkatesh and Revathi in the lead roles. This movie was an average grosser.

Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (HAHK)

This was family drama produced by Rajshri Productions and had Salman and Maduri Dixit in the leads. This was a remake of Rajshri's earlier movie Nadiya Ke Paar (1982), which ran houseful for years in theatre in Allahabad. HAHK was one of the biggest hits and won five Filmfare Awards and also bagged the National Award for being the most popular film. This film was second highest grossing film in Hindi cinema history.

Judwaa

Judwaa was David Dhawan's action comedy, which had Karisma Kapoor, Rambha and Salman Khan in dual role. The movie was a remake of the Telugu movie Hello Brother and had some shades of Jackie Chan's Twin Dragons. This movie had an excellent opening at the Indian Box Office. The movie was seventh highest grossing film of 1997.

Biwi No. 1

This was David Dhawan's comedy movie which had Salman, Karisma Kapoor, Sushmita Sen, Anil Kapoor and Tabu. It was remake of Kamal Hassan's Tamil film Sathi Leelavathi, which in turn was inspired by American film She-Devil. Thought the movie was poorly received upon release it was blockbuster of 1999.

Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye (KPNHJ)

The movie starred Salman Khan and Rani Mukherjee in the lead role. It was a remake of The Wedding Singer, which starred Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. Though KPNHJ was flop, songs are still hummed by people.

Kyon Ki

Priyadarshan's Kyon Ki was remake of his own Malayalam film Thalavattam. The story was also inspirited from the English novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Though Salman gave wonderful performance, which was praised by critics, the film did not do well at the Box Office.
It is said that Shahrukh Khan was the original choice of Salman's role but he declined.

Tere Naam

The movie written by Bala, starred Salman Khan, and Bhoomika Chawla debuted in Bollywood with this movie. It was a remake of Bala's own directional Tamil film Sethu. Before its release, media speculated that the film was based on Khan and Aishwarya Rai's real life relationship. Salman's performance was considered as 'the best' till date. The songs were popular and the movie was highest grosser of 2003.

Wanted

This movie is considered as comeback movie of Salman Khan as it broke many records at the Box Office. The film directed by Prabhu Deva, starred Ayesha Takia alongside Salman. It is a remake of Puri Jagannadh's superhit Telugu Pokiri, which was also directed by Prabhu Deva and starred Mahesh Babu and Ilena Dcruz in the lead role. It is said that Asin was first approached in place of Ayesha.

Ready

Ready starred Asin opposite Salman. It is a remake of the Telugu film of the same name which starred Ram and Genelia. The movie joined 100 crore club by collected 121 crore (Nett gross) within 14 days. It became second highest grossing Bollywood film of 2011 and is the eighth highest grossing Bollywood film ever worldwide (as of 2012).

Bodyguard

Bodyguard is remake of the Siddique's own Malayalam film of the same name. Hindi version had Salman and Kareena Kapoor in the lead roles, while the Malyalam version had Dilip and Nayanthara. Upon its release, the film broke many records. The film set a record by joining 100 crore club, by collecting 141 crore within seven days. It was a blockbuster at Indian Box Office. As of 2012, it is the third highest grossing Bollywood film.

Other Movies

Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam was remake of Tamil movie Thotta Chinungi and Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa was remake of a Hollywood movie Return to Me. Ek Ladka Ek Ladki and No Entry were loosely based on American film Overboard and Tamil film Charlie Chaplin, respectively. Saajan was partly inspired by the French play 'Cyrano de Bergerac' and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam's story was adopted from Bengali novel 'Na Hanyate'.

Upcoming Movies

His upcoming movie Kick is a remake of Telugu movie of the same name. The Telugu version had Ravi Teja and Ileana D'Cruz in the lead role.
It is also said that his next film Radhe will be a remake of a Punjabi film.
There are also rumours that Sohail Khan has plans to cast Salman for his next production, which is a remake of Telugu hit Brindavanam. It is also said that Salman is impressed with the Telugu hit Stalin and has bought the rights.
