Well, yes the actual lead of the film actor Prateik Babbar, who was supposedly re-launched (or launched) in Dhobi Ghat has been missing through out the promotions of the film. Is it that Aamir Khan's stardom has eaten into the importance of the other equally important characters in the film?
Film critic Subash K Jha in his review for the film states, “Very much like his performance in Taare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan very willingly lets his co-actors eclipse him. Sure, he's super as a cloistered artist, but this film is not about Aamir Khan, the superstar. It's primarily about four stories, with Aamir merely enacting one of the four pivotal characters. In fact, he underplays his part magnificently and munificently allows his fellow cast to be conspicuous in their respective parts."
If words of the critic are to be believed Aamir doesn't contribute much to the flow of the script or the storyline of the film. But we have been seeing Dhobi Ghat as a film by the perfectionist star Aamir Khan. Aamir in an interview said, “ I am so proud of Prateik. He is such a talented boy, committed, passionate and still laid back. I want to do everything that I can to give Prateik a great launch so that Smitaji feels happy wherever she is."
When this film is a launch of this talented and committed boy Prateik, then why was he not seen in any of the promotional event for the film? Or probably he was there but was simply sidelined by the big stardom of the celebrated Aamir.
This is not the first time that Aamir has entirely stolen away the limelight from any of his film to which he has not entirely contributed as an artist. Earlier it was his most celebrated production Peepli Live, which totally sidelined the main characters in the film by only highlighting it as Aamir Khan's production ( It should be noted that Aamir was not even a part of the Peepli Live cast). It has happened once again in case of Dhobi Ghat.
We can just say that where is Prateik Babbar, debutant Monica Dogra and Kriti Malhotra? Is it that Aamir's stardom is hampering the launch of all the three debutants?
