Puja GuptaThere is no denying that Indian women have brought laurels to the country by winning beauty pageants at the international level. In fact, they have been making the people proud by winning titles like Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss Asia Pacific. However, these same women look lost once they are back on their feet. Films seem to be the only way out. Yes, there is a long line of girls who have entered filmdom after wearing the crown.

Indian beauties have been using beauty pageants as a springboard to filmdom, and this tradition has been going on for many years. Nafisa Ali won Miss India title in 1976 and represented the country at the international level in 1977. She was adjusted the runners-up but her journey ended up in films. She has hit films like Junoon, Major Saab and Bewafaa.

Today, if you look at former Miss Indias, you will see most of them in films. Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai put India on the world beauty map by winning Miss Universe and Miss World titles respectively in 1994. But they jumped into films without a second thought. Other Miss India title winners are not immune to this syndrome.

They seem to find filmdom irresistible.

Aishwarya BachchanGlamour and film always go together. You hardly find films without glamour. In fact, you see too much of it in today's films with girls ever ready to show off their flesh. Moreover, beauty is one of the prerequisites of a film star. So, it is no surprising that Miss India title holders enter films, as they have all that it takes to become a big star like beauty, glamour, figure and above all confidence.

Miss Japan Riyo Mori has walked away with Miss Universe 2007 title but Miss India Universe Puja Gupta, who represented the country at the contest, has nothing to loss. She made it to the top 10 finalists. Another good news is that a world of fortune awaits her at home, because she can enter films any time, any day. Of course, this short-term demand could be fatal if they don't accept film offers with care.

Well, it would be very good if these beauties work for the cause of the society. They can bring about lots of changes in the society like no one else, especially in poor countries like ours. Let's not lost hope that these intelligent pretty girls start working for the people sooner than later and make our country a better place to live in.
