Films like Raja Hindustani, Soldier, Kya Kehna, The Legend Of Bhagat Singh and many such films have been made under the banner of Tips. Currently they have a number of projects lined up and so we had a talk with Ramesh Taurani himself for his forthcoming film Naqaab. Here is the excerpt.
What kind of a movie is Naqaab?
Naqaab is a suspense thriller. The uniqueness in this movie is that as the story progresses gradually the layers from the truth will be removed. The main cast of the film includes Bobby Deol, Akshay Khanna and newcomer Urvashi Sharma.
Tips had always been known for good music; tell us about the music of Naqaab?
The film has a total of four songs and the music has been composed by Pritam. It is true that Tips has been known for good and soothing music. I wish that all the songs of this film become great success like that of the movie Soldier. I think that the song 'Aye Dil Pagal Mere' will do well.
In today's scenario of technology, the beans of a suspense films are spilt before interval. What have you done to prevent this?
See we cannot stop technology and neither those people who reveal the suspense. But the suspense of our film does not end at interval.
How hopeful are you with Naqaab considering the fact that it is a multi-starrer film?
I'm confident that Naqaab will do well in the multi-starrer category. Humraaz has a newcomer Amisha, while 36 China Town had newcomer Shahid, but both did well. Tips already has a good rapport with viewers and our marketing is as good as our star cast. The audience has become intelligent today; they watch the promo before they go to watch a film.
What is the USP of Naqaab?
According to me, the USP for the film would be 'The most shocking thriller of the year'.
What do you keep in mind while investing in a film?
We invest money depending on the script. The music is also chosen accordingly. I'm happy that none of our films except The Legend Of Bhagat Singh have done well at the box office. But then, even that film had won a national award.
Which has been the most difficult film to work with?
The Legend Of Bhagat Singh was one film which troubled us the most. Since it was a historical film we had to make sure that we had our facts right. Apart from that, Race is another film on which we are putting in some extra effort.
Who is your target audience?
Our target audience is always Indians. See, even when NRI's watch our films, they are Indians. The fair skinned people do not watch our films, so we do not make the films keeping them in mind.

The upcoming films from Tips are Race, a remake of Amar Akbar Anthony and another unnamed film. Race will be directed by Abbas-Mastan and stars Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Khanna, Anil Kapoor, Sameera Reddy, Bipasha Basu and Katrina Kaif. David Dhavan will direct the remake of Amar Akbar Anthony and it will feature the three brothers, Salman, Arbaaz ana Sohail. Shahid Kapoor and Vidya Balan will feature in the yet unnamed film which will be directed by Aziz Mirza.
