Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj's latest venture Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola (MKBKM) has concluded the first weekend with a decent collection at the Indian Box Office. The Imran Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer has collected Rs 22.42 crores nett at the domestic collection centres in the opening weekend of its release.
Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola is a much-hyped movie, which had huge promotions prior its release. The movie was expected to get huge response at the domestic Box Office, but it opened a lackluster start. Its business was affected by Punjabi film Saadi Love Story in North and Tamil flick Alex Pandian and Telugu movies Naayak and Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu in South India.
Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola registered an average occupancy at both single screens and multiplexes across the country in the morning and matinee shows on the first day. The movie was expected to show a big improvement in its business in the afternoon and evening shows, but its collection remained same throughout the day.
Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola, which was released in 1850 screens in the country, garnered mixed reviews from film critics. But a positive word of mouth took its business upwards on Saturday and Sunday. The Imran Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer has collected Rs 22.42 crores nett at the domestic Box Office in three days. Its weekend breakup is Rs 26 lakhs in Thu previews, Rs 6.76 cr on Fri, Rs 7.25 cr on Sat and Rs 8 cr on Sun.
However, Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola has beaten the first weekend collection record of Imran Khan's last release Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu (EMAET), which had raked in Rs 21.25 crores at the domestic Box Office on its opening weekend. Monday is Sankranthi holiday and the movie is likely do well at the ticket windows. Stay locked to this space to read Box Office updates on MKBKM collection.
