Balasaheb Keshav Thackeray was a very influential politician in Maharashtra and he had a huge fan followers, who called him the Hindu Hriday Samraat (Emperor of Hindu Hearts). Thousands of his followers had gathered in front of his residence Matoshree in Mumbai three days before he breathed his last. There was a serious concern of security in the city and other parts of the state.
The bustling financial hub was brought to a halt over the news of Thackeray's death on Saturday. The film screenings of Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Son Of Sardar and others in city theatres were cancelled on Saturday as soon as the news of Bal Thackeray's demise spread. The theatre owners decided to keep the theatres closed on Saturday and Sunday for security reasons. Their screenings are likely to resume today (Monday, November 19).
However, Mumbai circuit is the main market for Hindi films in the country. Since the theatres remained closed, Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Son Of Sardar suffered a severe set back at the Box Office in the state over the weekend. Both the movies have lost out on a major chunk of their business due to Bal Thackeray's death.
